Nephrology-Urology Support Fund
The Nephrology-Urology Support Fund fuels innovative research in kidney and urinary tract diseases affecting companion animals. Under the leadership of Dr. Autumn N. Harris, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM), our work explores the causes and progression of renal disease in dogs and cats, investigates novel biomarkers for earlier detection, and evaluates the effectiveness of new and existing therapies to improve outcomes and quality of life for pets with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Our findings are translated into real-world impact through a robust clinical trials program.
Our Vision
The Support Fund plays a vital role in advancing both research and education in veterinary nephrology and urology. Current focus areas include:
- Clinical Trials for Dogs and Cats with CKD
We fund carefully designed clinical studies—ranging from $10,000 to $45,000 per study—to test new treatment approaches, improve diagnostics, and generate data that drives better care for companion animals. - Student Research Education
The fund supports veterinary students through programs such as the Summer Scholars Program (typically $5,000 per student), providing early exposure to research methodology and fostering a deeper understanding of kidney and urinary tract diseases. - Mentorship for Interns and Residents
We provide research opportunities for early-career veterinarians, helping them gain experience in clinical trials and contribute to published research. These experiences are essential for board certification and help build the next generation of clinician scientists in internal medicine and nephrology-urology.
Together, these initiatives advance veterinary science and enhance compassionate, evidence-based care for the animals we love!
