Dr. Harris subsequently completed a residency in veterinary nephrology and urology at NC State through the American College of Veterinary Nephrology and Urology and became board-certified in the specialty. She treats many species of animals with kidney and urinary tract diseases and is especially passionate about improving the lives of dogs and cats with chronic kidney disease. Dr. Harris has received the Postdoctoral Excellence in Renal Research Award from the American Physiological Society and the C.E. Cornelius Young Investigator Award from the University of Florida for her contributions to renal physiology and CKD in dogs and cats.

Guiding the Next Generation
Parker McConnell
Resident, Summer Student 2026
I am a third-year veterinary student, and I plan to work as a small animal GP when I graduate. I am originally from Pennsylvania but have lived in Raleigh for over 10 years, where I went to UNC Chapel Hill for undergrad. Outside of school, I enjoy listening to music, reading, and playing video games. I am working this summer as a research assistant for Dr. Harris and Dr. Reed-Jones, where we are assessing the safety and feasibility of muscle-building exercises in dogs with chronic kidney disease.
