Harris Laboratory

NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is one of the fastest-growing global health challenges, projected to become one of the top five causes of death worldwide by 2040. Affecting both humans and companion animals, CKD represents a critical area of unmet medical need, demanding new tools for early diagnosis, better understanding of disease mechanisms, and more effective treatments.

At the Harris Research Laboratory, we are dedicated to uncovering the molecular mechanisms that drive kidney disease progression across species. Our research places a unique emphasis on acid-base balance and its role in kidney physiology and pathophysiology. By integrating comparative biology, translational science, and cutting-edge molecular techniques, we aim to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical care.

We are passionate about discovering novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets that can change the trajectory of kidney disease. Our mission is simple but powerful: to improve the lives of patients living with chronic kidney disease through rigorous science, collaboration, and innovation.

Whether you’re a fellow researcher, clinician, student, or potential partner, we invite you to explore our work and join us in our mission to transform kidney health.
